Kick-Off Dinner 07.21.00
Venture Capital in Texas
(Online registration is now closed.)
There is little doubt that Texas is making great strides in entrepreneurialism
and venture capital investments. Over the past year alone, Texas
has jumped from tenth to fifth nationally in the amount of venture
capital attracted to this state. Yet Texas is a land of many contrasts,
and its three leading cities - Houston, Dallas, and Austin - possess
strikingly different characteristics. As a result, they are attracting
strikingly different forms of interest.
What do these cities' differences mean for Texas overall? Can
Texas be a tri-partite state? How do the VC and entrepreneurial
communities deal with the differences? On a more local note, it
is clear that Houston's efforts are currently much less noticed
than those of Austin or Dallas. Can Houston catch up? Are we ready
for a Silicon Valley environment?
Special Guest Panelists:
Scott Crist,
Founder and CEO of Telscape International and a general partner
of Venture Bridge LP, an early-stage venture capital fund.
